Hands Lifted to God's Commandments - Psalms 119:48

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “I will speak of your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed. And I will delight myself in your commandments, which I have loved”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse forty eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “my hands also will I lift up unto your commandments” where we read,

My hands also will I lift up unto your commandments, which I have loved;

and I will meditate in your statutes.

The verse begins, “My hands also will I lift up unto your commandments, which I have loved; The Psalmist began with the words, “my hands also” or “my, the Psalmist's, physical hands even so and indeed” “will I lift up” which means “shall I, the Psalmist, exalt, bear up and raise” “unto your commandments” or “to your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, laws and precepts”, “which I have loved” or “that I, the Psalmist, have had affection and passion toward”. The Psalmist declared that he would raise his physical hands toward Jehovah God's ordinances and laws about which he was greatly affectionate and passionate.

The verse goes on to say, “and I will meditate in your statutes.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and I will meditate” or “and I, the Psalmist, shall muse, commune, ponder, study, consider and put forth thoughts” “in your statutes” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, limits, prescribed tasks, portions and resolves”. The Psalmist said he would ponder, consider and put forth his thoughts toward the ordinances and resolves of Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he not only had the word of God within his thoughts, but also demonstrated his love for God's law by raising his hands in praise and surrender toward God for them. With thanksgiving we should receive the “word” of God because He loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a love for Him and His “commandments” as we ponder and surrender to Him.

Next time we begin the sixth section of Psalms one hundred nineteen which begins with the Hebrew letter “Zain” where the Psalmist says, “remember the word unto your servant”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
