Teach Me Good Judgment and Knowledge - Psalms 119:66

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “you have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according unto your word”, and in chapter one hundred and nineteen and verse sixty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “teach me good judgment and knowledge” where we read,

Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed your commandments.

The verse begins, “Teach me good judgment and knowledge: The Psalmist began with the words, “teach me good judgment” or “instruct, exercises and train me, the Psalmist, about what is fair, prosperous, joyful, tasteful with decision, decree, advice, behavior and understanding” “and knowledge” which means “and perceptions, skill, discernment and wisdom”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to instruct him in joyful and prosperous discernment and wisdom.

The verse goes on to say, “for I have believed your commandments.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “for I have believed” or “because, since and on account that I, the Psalmist, have trusted, had confidence and faith within” “your commandments” which means “your, Jehovah God's, Divine laws, ordinance and precepts”. The Psalmist said the reason he wanted Jehovah God to instruct him in “good judgment and knowledge” was because he trusted in Jehovah God's ordinances and laws.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist wanted God to give him instruction for his life. He knew God's “judgment and knowledge” would help him experience the best way to live, and when he had confidence within God's law, the Psalmist's way would be in alignment with Him. God loves people, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and instruct us as we trust in His laws.

Next time the Psalmist says, “before I was afflicted I went astray”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
