Kept from Beholding Vanity - Psalms 119:37

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “incline my heart unto your testimonies, and not to covetousness”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse thirty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “turn away my eyes from beholding vanity” where we read,

Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken you me in your way.

The verse begins, Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; The Psalmist began with the words, “turn away my eyes” or “carry, cross over, traverse and in advance of my, the Psalmist's, physical eyes” “from beholding vanity” which means “separate and apart from observing, noticing, discovering and discerning emptiness, falsehood, nothingness and worthlessness”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to cause his physical eyes to be apart from noticing and discovering emptiness.

The verse goes on to say,and quicken you me in your way.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and quicken you me” or “and make, remain, stay alive in a prosperous manner you, Jehovah God, me, the Psalmist” “in your way” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, road, journey and path”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to make him alive within His journey and manner for living.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to be involved in the pathway of his life. He desired that God keep his eyes from observing empty and false things, and he had a passion to be made alive according to God's code for living. God wants to be involved in our lives, and His direction for us is the best way to live. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect our eyes from “vanity” to make us alive and prosperous within His manner for living.

Next time the Psalmist says, “establish your word unto your servant”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
