In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist shares how God, “commanded to keep” His “testimonies” where we read,
You have commanded us to keep your precepts diligently.
The verse begins, “You have commanded us ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “you have commanded” or “you, Jehovah God, have charged, given order to, appointed and commissioned” “us” which means “the Psalmist and his people”. The Psalmist referred to how Jehovah God appointed and commissioned him and his people to do the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... to keep your precepts diligently.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “to keep your precepts” or “to guard, observe and give heed to your, Jehovah God's, statutes, mandates and laws” “diligently” which means “exceedingly, with abundance, might and force”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God ordered and directed him and his people to observe and give heed to His statutes and laws with abundance, might and force.
When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how he referred to the way Jehovah God ordered and charged him and his people to watch over and guard His laws. God knows what is best for mankind, and He gives “precepts” to protect and preserve people from harmful consequences. God loves us, and because we have violated His “law”, we will all suffer death one day. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross in our place, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to “diligently” observe and obey His manners and ways.
Next time the Psalmist says, “O that my ways were directed to keep your statutes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
