The Proud Have Dug Pits for Me - Psalms 119:85

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist asked, How many are the days of your servant? when will you execute judgment on them that persecute me?”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse eighty-five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the proud have dug pits for me” where we read,

The proud have dug pits for me, which are not after your law.

The verse begins, The proud have dug pits for me, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “the proud” or “the arrogant and presumptuous” “have dug pits for me” which means “have excavated, plotted and bore open hallows, holes and caverns on behalf of me, the Psalmist”. The Psalmist said people who were arrogant and presumptuous bore open holes or caverns like traps for him.

The verse goes on to say,... which are not after your law. The Psalmist continued with the words, “which are not after” or “that exist in no way or manner toward” “your law” which means “your, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction and codes of laws”. The Psalmist said the people who were arrogant and presumptuous who “dug pits” for him in no way followed and kept the direction and codes of Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist knew people who were arrogant and presumptuous desired to trap him. They did not observe the law of God, nor did they regard His codes for living. The Psalmist knew that he should come to God with His dilemma, and God wants everyone to come to Him when others rise up against them. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins to prove it. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and attend to arrogant and proud people who “dig pits” into which they desire we fall.

Next time the Psalmist says, “all your commandments are faithful”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
