In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in your precepts”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse seventy-nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let those that fear you turn unto me” where we read,
Let those that fear you turn unto me, and those that have known your testimonies.
The verse begins, “Let those that fear you turn unto me, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “Let those that fear you” or “allow and permit the people whether male or female who revere, respect and are in awe of you, Jehovah God” “turn unto me” which means “turn back, return, be restored and lead toward me, the Psalmist”. The Psalmist desired that people who were in awe of Jehovah God be turned back to him.
The verse goes on to say, “... and those that have known your testimonies.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and those that have known” or “and the people whether male or female who have perceived, understood, seen, been acquainted with, discovered and discerned” “your testimonies” which means “your, Jehovah God's, Divine witness and laws”. The Psalmist also wanted people who perceived and were acquainted with God's law to be joined to him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist wanted to keep company with people who revered Jehovah God and knew His word. The writer of Hebrews said, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25), and it is good for us to be in the company of people who love God and keep His word. God wants a family, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind to have one. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us a member of the assembly of people who “fear” Him and have understood His “testimony”.
Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “Let my heart be sound in your statutes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
