You are Good, and Do Good - Psalms 119:68

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept your word”, and in chapter one hundred and nineteen and verse sixty-eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “you are good, and do good” where we read,

You are good, and do good; teach me your statutes.

The verse begins, “You are good, and do good; The Psalmist began with the words, “you are good” or “you, Jehovah God, exist as pleasant, agreeable, rich, valuable and becoming” “and do good” which means “and fashion, make and produce pleasant, agreeable, rich, valuable and becoming things”. The Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God not only is pleasant and valuable in His character, but also does what is proper and right.

The verse goes on to say, “teach me your statutes.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “teach me” or “instruct, direct, exercise and train me, the Psalmist, within” “your statutes” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, decrees, resolves and prescribed tasks and portions”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to instruct him within His ordinances, decrees and resolves.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist knew Jehovah God's character is pleasant and agreeable, and he understood that God performs “rich and valuable” things. God loves people, and He desires to provide for them, protect them and instruct them in His ways. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and instruct us in His ordinances as we find Him good and pleasant and the maker of wonderful things.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the proud have forged a lie against me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
