Idols with Useless Mouths and Eyes - Psalms 135:16

In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist said, “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse sixteen of Psalms the Psalmist shared about the useless, “mouths and eyes” of the idols where we read,

They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;

The verse begins, “They have mouths, but they speak not; The Psalmist began with the words, “they have mouths” or “they, the images of silver and gold, own and possess orifices in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking”, “but they speak not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the images of silver and gold are unable to declare, converse, command, promise, warn, threaten or sing”. The Psalmist shared how the images made with silver and gold have “mouths”, but they are unable to declare or promise anything.

The verse continues, “eyes have they, but they see not; The Psalmist added the words, “eyes have they” or “physical eyes are possessed and owned by the images made of silver and gold”, “but they see not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the images of silver and gold, are unable to perceive, have vision, observe, watch or look out”. The Psalmist shared how the images made of silver and gold possess “eyes”, but they are unable to perceive and observe anything.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he referred to the useless “mouths and eyes” that are fashioned upon images made with silver and gold. These false idols in no way compare to Jehovah God, and yet, people were worshiping them. God is the God of the Universe who made every living mouth and eye that has been formed. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the value of having Him rather than false and useless gods in our lives.

Next time the Psalmist shares about the, “ears and breath” of the idols, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
