David Swore unto the LORD - Psalms 132:2

In Psalms one hundred thirty two the Psalmist said, “LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:”, and in chapter one hundred thirty two and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist shared how David, “swore unto the LORD” where we read,

How he swore unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;

The verse begins, “How he swore unto the LORD, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “how he swore” or “in the manner and way he, David, adjured, vowed or took an oath” “unto the LORD” which means “to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist referred to the time “David” took an oath toward Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “... and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; The Psalmist added the words, “and vowed” or “and promised” “unto the mighty God” which means “to the strong and powerful Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “of Jacob” or “belonging to Jacob whose name means heel holder or catcher and supplanter and was the son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel”. The Psalmist recalled when King David made a promise to the powerful Divine judge and ruler who belonged to “Jacob” who was also known as “Israel”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way David made a vow and promise to Jehovah God who was the powerful Divine and Supreme God whom his fore-father “Jacob” served. David loved Jehovah God, and God loved Him. When we learn how much God loves us and demonstrated it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, we have the opportunity to receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and listen to our promises and vows as we purpose to serve Him because of His wonderful act of salvation for us.

Next time the Psalmist shares how David said, “I will not come into the tabernacle of my house”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
