LORD, Remember David - Psalms 132:1

Psalms one hundred thirty two begins with the phrase, “A Song of Degrees” which breaks down, “A Song” or “a musical or lyrical ode” “of degrees” which means “pertaining to steps, stairs and ascents”, and in verse one the Psalmist said,“LORD, remember David” where we read,

LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:

The verse begins, “LORD, remember David, ... The Psalmist began with the word, “LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “remember David” which means “recall, call to mind and bring to remembrance David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to call to mind “David” who was the second king of Israel.

The verse goes on to say, “... in all his afflictions. The Psalmist continued with the words, “in all” or “within each, every, the whole and everyone of” “his afflictions” which means “his, David's, oppressions, humilities and depressions”. The Psalmist beckoned Jehovah God to bring to remembrance “David” within every one of his oppressions and acts or deeds that caused humility.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to recall His servant David within every one of his depressive times. God sees when we are humbled and brought low, and He is willing and able to help us when we are in trouble. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us with His Holy Spirit when troublesome and depressive times arrive.

Next time the Psalmist shares how David, “swore unto the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
