For David's Sake Turn Not Away - Psalms 132:10

In Psalms one hundred thirty two the Psalmist said, “Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your saints shout for joy”, and in chapter one hundred thirty two and verse ten of Psalms the Psalmist said, “for your servant David's sake turn not away” where we read,

For your servant David's sake turn not away the face of your anointed.

The verse begins, “For your servant David's sake ... The Psalmist began with the words, “For your servant” or “on behalf of your, Jehovah God's, man of servile condition, subject and worshiper” “David's sake” which means “on behalf of the account and order of David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”. The Psalmist beckoned Jehovah God not to do the following on account of “David” who was His man of servile condition and worshiper.

The verse continues, “... turn not away the face of your anointed. The Psalmist added the words, “turn not away” or “do not apostatize, lead away or relinquish” “the face of your anointed” which means “the presence, front and countenance belonging to your, Jehovah God's, consecrated one”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God not to apostatize the countenance of his sacred and consecrated one.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist did not want Jehovah God to reject His “anointed” king. God wants us to worship Him, and we are blessed when we do. He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to appeal to Him so our countenance will not be “turned away” from Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD has sworn in truth unto David”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
