Psalms one hundred thirty three begins with the phrase, “[[A Song of degrees of David.]]” which breaks down, “A Song” or “a musical or lyrical ode” “of degrees” which means “pertaining to steps, stairs and ascents” “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in verse one David said, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” where we read,
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
The verse begins, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is ...” David began with the words, “Behold, how good” or “lo, look and consider what agreeable, prosperous and becoming” “and pleasant it is” which means “and delightful, sweet, lovely and beautiful the following exists”. David told his readers and listeners to consider how agreeable, prosperous and becoming the following exists.
The verse goes on to say, “... for brethren to dwell together in unity!” David continued with the words, “for brethren” or “for relatives, kinsmen, fellow tribesmen and people in relationships” “to dwell together” which means “to live, remain, sit and abide with one another” “in unity” or “in union, united and likeness”. David said it is “good and pleasant” for people who are kinsmen and fellowmen to abide together in a unified way.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David wanted the people reading and hearing his words to consider how agreeable and delightful it is when people live with one another in harmony. So often people separate from one another and become factions rather than being united with one another. God knew this would be, and His desire is to bring all mankind together under the leadership of His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to be crucified on the cross and raised from the dead for the sins of all mankind. When we rely upon, cling to and trust in Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “unite” us under His way of living and according to His perfect will and plan for our lives.
Next time David says, “It is like the precious ointment upon the head”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
