Like Precious Ointment - Psalms 133:2

In Psalms one hundred thirty three David said, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”, and in chapter one hundred thirty three and verse two of Psalms David said, “It is like the precious ointment upon the head” where we read,

It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard,

even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

The verse begins, It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard:” David began with the words, “it is like the precious ointment” or “it, the unity of people, exists similar and in likeness to good, agreeable, excellent and appropriate oil, medicament or unguent” “upon the head” which means “on the physical head”, “that ran down the beard” or “that descended, declined and sank down the hair upon the chin”, “even Aaron's beard” which means “indeed Aaron's, whose name means light bringer and was the brother of Moses, a Levite and the first high priest”. (See Exodus 30:25-30) David said unity of the brethren is similar to excellent oil or medicament that flowed down the “beard” of “Aaron” who was the first high priest among the people of Israel.

The verse continues, “that went down to the skirts of his garments; David added the words, “that went down to the skirts” or “that flowed, descended and declined toward the extremity and edge” “of his garments” which means “belonging to his, Aaron's, measured portions, vestment and outer clothing”. David referred to “the precious ointment” that flowed down to the extremities of the clothing which Aaron was wearing.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David knew the importance of “unity” flowing throughout the entire body of people who gathered together. Factions among people occur, and this should not be when we align ourselves under God's Son Jesus Christ who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and unite us into His family to live with Him in Heaven forever and ever.

Next time David says unity is, “as the dew of Hermon”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
