Hearing at Ephratah - Psalms 132:6

In Psalms one hundred thirty two the Psalmist referred to when David said, “Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed. I will not give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids, until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob”, and in chapter one hundred thirty two and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “we heard of it at Ephratah” where we read,

Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.

The verse begins, “Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: The Psalmist began with the words, “Lo, we heard of it” or “look, behold and consider, we David and his people, were given the faculty for hearing, listening to, perceiving and understanding of it, the ark of the covenant” “at Ephratah” which refers to “Ephrath” which means “ash-heap or place of fruitfulness”. The Psalmist shared how David and his fellow countrymen perceived that the ark of the covenant was located in “Ephratah”.

The verse continues, “we found it in the fields of the wood. The Psalmist added the words, “we found it” or “we, David and his people, discovered it, the ark” “in the fields” which means “within the cultivated land, plain, ground or soil” “of the wood” or “belonging to the forest, thicket or wooded height”. The Psalmist shared how David and his fellow countrymen discovered the ark in the wooded forest.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the time when David and his men discovered the “ark of the covenant” within Ephrath. (See 1 Samuel 17:12) Although Jehovah God was not the “ark”, it represented His presence among the people. God wants to reveal His presence to us through a personal intimate relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so this would be possible. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be present with us by way of His Holy Spirit every day.

Next time the Psalmist says, “we will go into his tabernacles”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
