In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist said, “For the LORD has chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I know that the LORD is great” where we read,
For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.
The verse begins, “For I know that the LORD is great, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “for I know” or “because, since and on account that I, the Psalmist, perceive, distinguish, recognize, consider and discriminate” “that the LORD” which means “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “is great” or “exists as large in magnitude, intensity and importance”. The Psalmist shared how he was aware of the magnitude and importance of Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “... and that our Lord is above all gods.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and that our Lord” or “and that our, the Psalmist and his fellow country-men's, reverent God” “is above all gods” which means “exists over and beyond each, every, the whole and everyone of the rulers, judges, angels and divine ones”. The Psalmist also understood that Jehovah God is over and beyond every other “god” or “deity” that is worshiped among men.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist perceived the exceeding excellence of Jehovah God, and He was beyond every other “god” that people worship. God is the Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God, and He alone sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life as we recognize His “greatness” and ability that exceeds every other thing that people worship.
Next time the Psalmist shares about, “Whatsoever the LORD pleased”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
