The LORD has Chosen Jacob - Psalms 135:4

In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist said, “Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the LORD has chosen Jacob unto himself” where we read,

For the LORD has chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

The verse begins, For the LORD has chosen Jacob unto himself, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “for the LORD” or “because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “has chosen Jacob” which means “has selected, elected, decided for and appointed Jacob whose name means heel holder or catcher and supplanter and is son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel” “unto himself” or “to His, Jehovah God's, own self”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God was to be “praised” with words and songs because He selected “Jacob” for His own self.

The verse continues, “... and Israel for his peculiar treasure. The Psalmist added the words, “and Israel” or “and Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “for his peculiar treasure” which means “on behalf of his, Jehovah God's, special possession, property, wealth and jewel”. The Psalmist shared how “Israel” is Jehovah God's special wealth, possession and jewel.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God selected “Israel” to be His special possession. God loves “Israel”, and He chose them to be the nation through whom the entire world would be blessed. (See Genesis 18:18; 22:18 and Galatians 3:8) God sent His Son Jesus through the lineage of “Jacob or Israel” to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be among the people whom He chooses as His “peculiar treasure”. (See 1 Peter 2:9)

Next time the Psalmist says, “I know that the LORD is great,”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
