If Children Keep God's Covenant - Psalms 132:12

In Psalms one hundred thirty two the Psalmist said, “The LORD has sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of your body will I set upon your throne”, and in chapter one hundred thirty two and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist shared what will happen, “if your children will keep my covenant and my testimony” where we read,

If your children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them,

their children shall also sit upon your throne for evermore.

The verse begins, “If your children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, The Psalmist began with the words, “if your children” or “whether and in case your, David's, offspring, progeny, sons and grandsons” “will keep my covenant” which means “shall guard, watch over, observe and give heed to my, Jehovah God's, alliance, pledge, treaty, league, constitution and ordinance” “and my testimony” or “and my, Jehovah God's, Divine witness” “that I shall teach them” which means “that I, Jehovah God, will exercise, train and instruct them, the offspring of David”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God considered David's offspring watching over and obeying His pledge, constitution and Divine witness which are taught to them by God.

The verse continues, “their children shall also sit upon your throne for evermore. The Psalmist added the words, “their children” or “their, the offspring and progeny of David” “shall also sit” which means “will even so and indeed be seated, fixed and appointed” “upon your throne” or “on your, David's, seat of authority, power, might and strength” “for evermore” which means “for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist said if David's offspring would observe Jehovah God's constitution and Divine witness, they would continue to be seated upon David's “throne” of authority and power unto perpetuity.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God promised David that his rule would last forever through his posterity if they would observe His ordinances and Divine witness. Although David's children and grandchildren fell away from God's ways, Jesus the Messiah came through His lineage, and He shall rule forever. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to rule and reign with Him in Heaven for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD has chosen Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
