In Psalms one hundred thirty two the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God said to David, “If your children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon your throne for evermore”, and in chapter one hundred thirty two and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the LORD has chosen Zion” where we read,
For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation.
The verse begins, “For the LORD has chosen Zion;” The Psalmist began with the words, “for the LORD” or “because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “has chosen Zion” which means “has elected, decided and selected Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”. The Psalmist declared that Jehovah God selected “Zion” or “Jerusalem”.
The verse goes on to say, “he has desired it for his habitation.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “he has desired it” or “he, Jehovah God, has craved, coveted, wished and waited longingly for it, Zion or Jerusalem” “for his habitation” which means “to exist as his, Jehovah God's, seat, assembly, dwelling place, location and situation”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God wanted “Zion” or “Jerusalem” to be His dwelling place and situation.
When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God selected “Zion” to be His dwelling place. Jerusalem was and is the center location for God's salvation plan for mankind, and because everyone has “sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value that He places upon “Zion” or “Jerusalem” to be the salvation center of the world.
Next time the Psalmist says, “this is my rest for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
