If the LORD Marks Iniquities - Psalms 130:3

In Psalms one hundred thirty the Psalmist said, “Out of the depths have I cried unto you, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice: let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications”, and in chapter one hundred thirty and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist questioned what would happen, “If you, LORD, should mark iniquities” where we read,

If you, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

The verse begins, “If you, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “If you, LORD” or “whether and in case you, Jehovah God who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “should mark iniquities” which means “were to watch for, observe, guard over, treasure up and keep within bounds perversities, depravities, guilt and punishment for faults and sins”. The Psalmist considered what would happen if Jehovah God treasured up and watched over faults and sins.

The verse continues, “... O Lord, who shall stand? The Psalmist added the words, “O Lord” or “O God who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “who shall stand” which means “what person whether male or female will withstand, be established, continue and endure”? The Psalmist asked Jehovah God what person would be able to withstand His observation of their sins and wrongs.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist thought about Jehovah God noting and observing the sins of every person. He wondered whether there was anyone who would be able to continue in His presence. No one could, because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and because this is true, “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23) This is why Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross in our place, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and become our advocate for salvation when we stand before God. (See 1 John 2:1)

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “But there is forgiveness with you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
