Land for a Heritage - Psalms 135:12

In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast. Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants. Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings. Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “gave their land for an heritage” where we read,

And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his people.

The verse begins, “And gave their land for an heritage, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “and gave their land” or “and put, set, bestowed, granted and ascribed their, the kings of the Amorites, Bashan and Canaan, country, territory, district and region” “for an heritage” which means “as an inheritance, possession, property, portion and share”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God provided the “country and territory” that belonged to the Canaanite kings as the following.

The verse continues, “... an heritage unto Israel his people. The Psalmist added the words, “and heritage” or “as an inheritance, possession, property, portion and share” “unto Israel” which means “to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “his people” or “his, Jehovah God's, nation, compatriots, countrymen, kinsmen and kindred”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God bestowed the territories of the kings of the Canaanites to the nation of “Israel” who is His nation and countrymen.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God provided the property that belonged to the Canaanites to the people of “Israel”. God owns everything, (See Psalms 24:1) and He can give it to whomever He desires. He gave His people these lands because they were to be the nation through whom His Son Jesus the Messiah would come. Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and grant to us whatever He desires in the way that He provided for “Israel”.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Your name, O LORD, endures for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
