Let Israel Hope in the LORD - Psalms 130:7

In Psalms one hundred thirty the Psalmist said, “My soul waits for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning”, and in chapter one hundred thirty and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let Israel hope in the LORD” where we read,

Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

The verse begins, “Let Israel hope in the LORD: The Psalmist began with the words, “Let Israel” or “allow and permit Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “hope in the LORD” which means “wait, tarry and have expectation within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist desired to allow the people of “Israel” to place their tarrying and expectation within Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. The Psalmist added the words, “for with the LORD” or “because, since and on account that accompanying Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “there is mercy” which means “there exists, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”, “and with him” or “and accompanying him, Jehovah God” “is plenteous redemption” which means “exists great, numerous, enlarged and abundant distinction, deliverance and ransom”. The Psalmist said the reason “Israel” should place their expectation in Jehovah God was because of His goodness, kindness and faithfulness and abundant ransom and deliverance.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist cared for the nation of “Israel”, and he wanted them to place their “hope” in Jehovah God. He knew God is good, kind and faithful, and His plan of deliverance and salvation is greater than he could describe. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, we allow ourselves to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given the opportunity to “hope” in Jehovah and enjoy His goodness and faithfulness for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says concerning Jehovah God, “he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
