Let Israel Hope in the LORD - Psalms 131:3

In Psalms one hundred thirty one David said, “Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child”, and in chapter one hundred thirty one and verse three of Psalms David said, “Let Israel hope in the LORD” where we read,

Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

The verse begins, “Let Israel hope in the LORD ... David began with the words, “let Israel” or “allow and permit Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “hope” which means “to wait, tarry and be in expectation” “in the LORD” or “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David wanted the nation of “Israel” to place their expectation in Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “... from henceforth and for ever. David added the words, “from henceforth” or “from now, straightway and from this time forth” “and for ever” which means “and even unto long duration, unto futurity, perpetually, everlasting and evermore”. David wanted the nation of “Israel” to put their expectation in Jehovah God from the present time and unto perpetuity.

When we think through David's words in this verse, we see how he desired to have the people of the nation of “Israel” to tarry and wait eternally for Jehovah God. The idea is that they would be dependent upon Him for everything they needed. God wants the same for all people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind so this could be. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He forgives our sins, grants us everlasting life and helps us place our “hope” in Him for whatever we need. (See Philippians 4:19)

Next time we begin a new chapter where the Psalmist says, “LORD, remember David”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
