Smiting Great Nations - Psalms 135:10

In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast. Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse ten of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “smote great nations” where we read,

Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;

The verse begins, “Who smote great nations, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “who smote” or “who, Jehovah God, beat, slayed and killed” “great nations” which means “numerous, abounding and exceedingly mighty foreign and heathen people groups”. The Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God destroyed mighty foreign and heathen people groups.

The verse continues, “... and slew mighty kings; The Psalmist added the words, “and slew” or “and destroyed, slayed and put to death” “mighty kings” which means “numerous strong and powerful royal rulers and leaders”. The Psalmist recalled the way Jehovah God put the strong and powerful rulers to death as well.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist remembered how Jehovah God destroyed powerful foreign people groups and their leaders. God rules the world, and He offers salvation to everyone through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with those who oppose Him according to His perfect will, timing and plan.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “Sihon, Og and all the kingdoms of Canaan”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
