In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent tokens and wonders into the midst of you” where we read,
Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants.
The verse begins, “Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “who sent tokens” or “who, Jehovah God, dispatched and assigned, ensigns, signals, miracles and distinguishing marks of remembrance” “and wonders” which means “and portents and miraculous omens” “into the midst of you” or “in the middle of you, Egypt”, “O Egypt” whose name means “land of the Copts” and was a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine, and through which the Nile flows”. The Psalmist recalled how Jehovah God also dispatched miraculous ensigns and portents into the middle of the nation of “Egypt”.
The verse goes on to say, “... upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “upon Pharaoh” or “on Pharaoh whose name means great house and was the general title of Egyptian kings”, “and upon all his servants” which means “and on each, every, the whole and everyone of his, Pharaoh's, men of servile condition, slaves and bondmen”. The Psalmist remembered how the judgment of Jehovah God also came upon “Pharaoh” and his bondmen.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist recalled the judgment of God fell upon the nation of “Egypt” through various plagues and disasters, and the Pharaoh and his bondmen were not exempt from the troubles. God poured out His wrath upon “Egypt” only after offering them a way to escape, and He does the same today. God knows that we have sinned, (See Romans 3:23), and the wages of sin is death (See Romans 6:23). He offers us salvation through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind (See John 3:16), and when we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved. (See Romans 10:9-10) When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring judgment upon those who refuse Him according to His perfect will and timing.
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “smote great nations”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
