Better to Trust in the LORD than Man - Psalms 118:8

In Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD takes my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “It is better to trust in the LORD” where we read,

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

The verse begins with the words, It is better to trust in the LORD ... The Psalmist began with the words, “it is better” or “it exists as good, pleasant and agreeable” “to trust” which means “to have faith, security and confidence” “in the LORD” or “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist referred to having faith and confidence within Jehovah God rather than the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... than to put confidence in man.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “than to put” or “ rather to fix, establish and place” “confidence in man” which means “faith, security and trust within people whether male or female”. The Psalmist said having faith in Jehovah God is better than placing trust within people.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see his instruction concerning where we should place our “trust”. We should put our confidence in Jehovah God rather than people. God loves us more than anyone, and the proof of it came when He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our “faith and trust” in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and demonstrate His faithfulness to us in this life and the next.

Next time the Psalmist tells what is better than putting, “confidence in princes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
