Trust in the LORD Rather Than Princes - Psalms 118:9

In Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD takes my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist shared what is better than putting, “confidence in princes” where we read,

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

The verse begins with the words, It is better to trust in the LORD ... The Psalmist began with the words, “it it better” or “it exists as good, pleasant and agreeable”“to trust” which means “to have faith, security and confidence” “in the LORD” or “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said having faith and confidence within Jehovah God is better than the following.

The verse continues, “... than to put confidence in princes.” The Psalmist added the words, “than to put” or “rather to fix, establish and place” “confidence in princes” which means “faith, security and trust within nobles, magnanimous ones or grandees”. The Psalmist declared having confidence in Jehovah God exists as better than placing faith in nobles or magnanimous ones.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist elevated his idea about putting trust and faith in Jehovah God rather than people. This time he referred to people who have positions of “authority” such as nobles or “princes”. God is always faithful and true, and when we consider that He gave His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of the world, we know He loves us. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be faithful, dependable and trustworthy all the days of our lives to a greater degree than any person who rules or governs over us.

Next time the Psalmist says, “all nations compassed me about”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
