God's Great Merciful Kindness - Psalms 117:2

In Psalms one hundred seventeen the Psalmist said, “O praise the LORD, all you nations: praise him, all you people”, and in chapter one hundred seventeen and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “ for his merciful kindness is great toward us” where we read,

For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endures for ever.

Praise you the LORD.

The verse begins, For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endures for ever. The Psalmist began with the words, “for his merciful kindness” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”“is great toward us” which means “exists as strong, powerful and mighty toward us, the Psalmist and his people”: “and the truth” or “and the firmness, faithfulness, sureness, reliability and stability” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and is the proper name for the One True God” “endures for ever” or “lasts and remains for long duration, futurity, everlasting, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God's goodness, faithfulness, kindness, reliability and sureness will remain for all eternity.

The verse continues, “Praise you the LORD.” The Psalmist added the words, “praise you” or “shine forth, be boastful, commend and celebrate you, the people reading and listening to the words of the Psalmist” “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist repeated the idea of giving honor, praise and glory to Jehovah God.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he said the reason people should give “praise and honor” to Jehovah God is because His “goodness, kindness and faithfulness” lasts forever. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the opportunity to give Him “praise”, honor and glory for all eternity.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
