O Give Thanks Unto the LORD - Psalms 118:1

Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “O give thanks unto the LORD”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said completely,

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endures for ever.

The verse begins, O give thanks unto the LORD; The Psalmist began with the words, “O give thanks” or “O grant, bestow and impart thanksgiving, laud, praise, reverence and worship”“unto the LORD” which means “toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to bestow thanksgiving and worship upon Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, “because his mercy endures for ever” The Psalmist continued with the words, “because his mercy” or “since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains and for long duration, futurity, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist said the reason people should “give thanks unto the LORD” was because His goodness, kindness and faithfulness remains perpetually.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exhorted people reading and listening to his words to offer thanksgiving and reverence to Jehovah God because His goodness, kindness and faithfulness remains eternally. God is the same yesterday, today and forever, (See Hebrews 13:8), and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. We can have a personal relationship with God when we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Lord and Savior”. He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to enjoy His goodness and kindness for all eternity as we give “thanks” unto Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Let Israel now say, that his mercy endures for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
