Praise the LORD All You Nations - Psalms 117:1

Psalms one hundred seventeen is the shortest Psalm in the Bible with only two verses where the Psalmist began, “O praise the LORD, all you nations”, and in chapter one hundred seventeen and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said completely,

O praise the LORD, all you nations: praise him, all you people.

The verse begins with the words, O praise the LORD, all you nations: The Psalmist began with the words, “O praise the LORD” or “O shine forth, be boastful, commend and celebrate Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” ,“all you nations” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the people groups, non-Hebrews, Gentiles, foreigners and heathens”. The Psalmist called upon people throughout the world to give honor, commendation and celebration to Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, “praise him, all you people.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “praise him” or “shine forth, be boastful, commend and celebrate him, Jehovah God”, “all you people” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of you, human beings both male and female”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers, listeners and human beings everywhere to give honor, commendation and celebration to Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exhorted everyone reading and listening to his words to give honor, praise and glory to Jehovah God. Every nation, tribe and people throughout the world are to celebrate Him, because God is worthy of our praise. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the opportunity to give Him honor and praise for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “for his merciful kindness is great toward us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
