Israel Saying the LORD'S Mercy Endures Forever - Psalms 118:2

In Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let Israel now say, that his mercy endures for ever” where we read,

Let Israel now say, that his mercy endures for ever.

The verse begins, Let Israel now say, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “Let Israel” or “allow and permit Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob ”“now say” which means “at this time and moment utter, declare and proclaim” the following. The Psalmist exhorted the nation of “Israel” to utter, declare and proclaim the following words.

The verse continues, “... that his mercy endures for ever..” The Psalmist added the words, “that his mercy” or “that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto continual existence and perpetuity”. The Psalmist wanted Israel to declare that Jehovah God's goodness, kindness and faithfulness lasts perpetually and unto perpetuity.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he told the people in the nation of “Israel” to declare that Jehovah God's goodness, kindness and faithfulness lasts eternally. God wants an everlasting personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the opportunity to declare His goodness and kindness unto perpetuity alongside of “Israel”.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endures for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
